Here’s something locals know that visitors sometimes miss: September water temperatures at Lake of the Ozarks typically peak in the mid-to-upper 80s°F — the warmest of the entire year. The lake is a reservoir fed by the Osage River, and the shallow coves warm up fast by late summer. If swimming, tubing, or floating in a quiet cove with a cold drink is your idea of a perfect afternoon, September delivers it better than any other month.

Boat traffic is also noticeably lighter than peak July, especially on weekday mornings. Our team hears from guests every year who say their Fall trip was their favorite — the lake is still alive, but the frantic energy of peak summer has settled into something more relaxed.

Ozarks Amphitheater: The Ozarks Amphitheater is an outdoor venue, so the setting is part of the experience: warm September / October night, stars overhead, to music and fun time. Tickets are available through the Ozarks Amphitheater box office. If you’re making a weekend of it — and you should — a rental on the Osage Beach side puts you a short drive from the show with a full day on the water beforehand.
